Name: Mothnose
About the name: Moth- for his brown ticked pelt, -nose for his tracking ability
Past names: Mothkit (kit), Mothpaw (apprentice)
Age: 34 moons
Gender: tom
Personality:
Mothnose is a passable hunter and an average fighter but his true skill set lies in tracking, hence the suffix -nose. He loves feeling involved in every aspect of clan life and you're just as likely to see him chatting to the elders or snuffling around in the medicine cat den as hanging out with the warriors when he's in camp. He loves to talk and especially to gossip. When it comes to tracking he seems like a different cat; he's still easily distracted but in the end he'll track the scent as far as he can with dogged determination.
He seems easily excitable and a tad dramatic but he can put on the persona of a mature warrior when the situation calls for it. Around those he likes he tends to be a tad more reserved and more quiet as he no longer feels the need to fill the air with chatter.
Clan: Ivyclan
Rank: warrior
Past apprentices: Softpaw, Blizzardpaw, Rushpaw(1st)
Kits: none
Genetics: XoY Aa Dd Tata Spsp Mcmc Bb Ss ww Ll ii C*
Pelt: brown ticked tabby and white. In his ticked tabby sections he has distinctive black flecks. He has white on all his paws and his front legs, chest, belly, muzzle and a blaze on his face. He has patches of brown tabby on the white of his front two legs and very distinctive residual tabby markings.
Eyes: yellow-green
Fur length and type: he has a short, somewhat dense coat
Build: He's a little smaller than average with a stocky build.
Face: He has a slightly squared face.
Scars: several; recent (12/16) loss of fur along sides of face and body, fur is half grown back, very minor scarring, will fade with time.

Short description: stocky brown ticked tabby and white tom with yellow-green eyes
Standing in clan/group: Cats tend to see him as a tad annoying and obnoxious but he's well liked enough.
Dream Rank: warrior; plenty of freedom with a dash of responsibility
Fighting: Mothnose has always been an enthusiastic fighter but his skills here are lacking. He lacks the subtletey or forethought to make the most of his build. He has a competitive streak and would almost rather try to win a battle in a flashy manner at the risk of losing than take the safe win. His fighting lessons are interesting to watch as he is awful at explaining many moves and can only show by example.
Hunting: He's adapt at locating prey and a better hunter than a fighter. He gets bored easily and while his technique is good sometimes suffers for it. His technique is very quick and nearly careless.
Strengths: His main strength is tracking in which he has a great deal of patience, enthusiasm and skill. His nose is very attuned and this earned him his name. He's a fair hunter and a decent swimmer.
Weaknesses: Fighting, imaptience, inability to keep mouth shut. Love of gossip.
Fears: death, loneliness, boredom, silence, being injured by prey while hunting
Former positions: kit, apprentice
Mentor: Weaselfur- a brown tabby and white tom

How he sees himself:
Breaking the character:
Former apprentices: Blizzardpaw (incomplete), Rushpaw (1st)
Mentor: Weaselfur (NPC) - brown tabby and white tom
Standing in clan/group: overall cats seem to see him positively although some cats find him irratating and annoying, or see him as incompetent
Religious views: he isn't overtly religious but he does believe in starclan. For him belief is an unconscious thing. Not particularly devout, he can be heard arguing with Laurelheart about religion on occasion. He mostly only thanks starclan or consciously thinks about them when he's in (or just escaped from) a sticky situation.

Fur length and type: his fur is short, somewhat dense with a soft, luxurious texture.

Fighting: (6/10) Mothnose has always been an enthusiastic fighter but his skills here are lacking. He lacks the subtlety or forethought to make the most of his build. He has a competitive streak and would almost rather try to win a battle in a flashy manner at the risk of losing than take the safe win. His fighting lessons are interesting to watch as he is awful at explaining many moves and can only show by example.
Hunting: (8/10) He's adapt at locating prey and a better hunter than a fighter. He gets bored easily and while his technique is good sometimes suffers for it. His technique is very quick and nearly careless.
Strengths: He has a natural agility. He's hard to get down and can nearly always fit a smile to things. He can talk to virtually anyone. Doesn't sense social tension which can do wonders in tense situations.
Weaknesses: He is not the kind of cat you want anywhere near anything requiring diplomacy. He struggles when it comes to getting the respect of his apprentices. Can struggle to put words to things (ie his teaching style involves a lot of poking, prodding, demonstrating etc rather than explaining). He's impatient and loves to gossip.
Fears: death, loneliness, boredom, silence.

Personality
Character arc: One way or another he'll grow into a more mature, cautious and responsible cat. I'm open to this happening via complete destruction of his naivety and self esteem or through a more positive relationship.Myer Briggs type: ESFP (Exuberant; outgoing; lover of life; hedonistic; serious partier; scattered; always into new things, chatty)

He is very trusting of other cats, even Roseclanners, and the code when it comes to keeping him safe.
How he sees himself:
- Scattered -- This is one of the main things he dislikes about himself, the way he jumps around and has a real talent for saying the wrong thing. Mentally and physically he is constantly moving and rarely keeps his mouth shut. On one level he knows he should learn to temper this but he can never quite manage it.
- Outgoing -- He feels this is his greatest strength. Perhaps due to how scattered he is and his obliviousness in social situations he can launch into a conversation with virtually anyone without hesitation. Even if awkwardness creeps in he'll try to power through it.
- Soft -- This is another thing he dislikes about himself. Even approaching the end of his third year he has yet to develop the calloused, cynicism many warriors have. He can easily be taken advantage of by the world as he is so trusting and very naive.
- In the group -- to develop his position in the clan and earn the respect of his clanmates (3/10)
- For the self -- to continue loving life (8/10)
- Relationships -- to develop meaningful connections rather than superficial ones, in love and life in general (7/10)
Breaking the character:
- Unfocused -- In very pressing situations (battles, emergencies etc) or when he's tracking he can focus and stay on task. In other situations that require concentration (training apprentices comes to mind, as does assessments and patrols) he remains unfocused and his performance will struggle.
- Compassionate -- he takes his compassion too far and he hates to see anyone in pain. If for example he were in charge of rationing food in hard times he would feed the clan everything in a day and perhaps Roseclan for good measure. He isn't very good at prioritizing one person's happiness over another. He is aware of this trait and tries to stick by his leader's decisions.
- Gossipy -- don't trust him with important information. Just don't do it. If he knows something is top secret (and whoever told him makes a big deal of trusting him to keep it that way) he may manage to keep the secret but anyone with half a brain will know he's hiding something. Sometimes he can accidentally cause drama by spreading things which he hates and would never deliberately do. He isn't vocal about his own feelings.
- Trusting -- he will never attack first and will always give the benefit of the doubt which is damaging for a warrior. He has complete and utter faith in the nature of cats and the warrior code. This helps him keep positive but it also completely shatters him when cats betray this trust. He would trust a stranger with his life which can't end well.

Things you may have heard:
- Once caused a ruckus at a gathering -- TRUE -- at his first gathering as an apprentice he asked Ryetail (then a mature warrior) how training was going. The older tom was naturally offended and as this was a time of tension between clans things turned hostile immediately. No blood was spilled but the gathering ended soon after and Mothnose didn't attend another gathering until he was a warrior. The elders still love this story.
- He has a crush on ____ -- Maybe, maybe not -- he isn't good at talking about his emotions so he isn't going to spill the beans outright. He can be quite flirty and touchy feely with his friends in a purely platonic way. If it looks like he's in love with someone he's probably not, if he's acting polite and indifferent he's crushing hard.
- He is a new warrior -- FALSE -- kits and apprentices tend to think he's a brand new warrior due to his care free personality and naivety. He is a mature warrior.

The Past
Former positions: kit, apprentice Timeline: Born (late leaf-fall) - apprenticed @7 (early green-leaf) - warrior @14 (mid leaf bare)
History:
Kit
- He was born the only tom and runt in a litter of three kittens. One of his sisters was stillborn but the other was strong, healthy and far bigger than Mothkit. His was the first Laurelheart helped deliver alone. His father had left the clan.
- Being born in a late leaf-fall litter he caught green cough soon after being weaned and was isolated from his siblings. For his recovery Laurelheart took over the bulk of Mothkit's care while the kit fought off his sickness and then recovered.
- The rest of Mothkit's kithood was a lonely one as he was frail for the next few moons and lived in and out of the medicine cat den. While he would always be distant to the other kits he grew very close to Laurelheart who came to see him almost as a surrogate son.
- He caught another bout of greencough towards the end of his kithood. It nearly killed him and left him quite weak.
- The saddest day of Mothkit's life was when his sister became an apprentice without him. Laurelheart and the leader decided to keep him back for a moon while he gathered his strength and put on some more weight.
Apprentice
- He bounded into the apprentice den, desperate to make up for lost time. He threw himself into training with all out enthusiasm, tempered only by Weaselfur's insistence he couldn't do that yet and Laurelheart's reminders he was still weak.
- At his first gathering as an apprentice he implied Ryetail was an apprentice. He was subsequently banned from attending gatherings until he became a warrior.
- He continued to grow as an apprentice and filled out considerably. While still small he was mostly caught up with his littermates by the time they became warriors.
- While he was competent at all his skills, he was very unfocused and the leader and his mentor believed he did not have the head of a warrior just yet. His warrior ceremony was delayed by two moons. While he was disappointed to have his warrior name put off again he didn't let it get to him and kept his upbeat demeanor. In his mind the extra moon of work would make him twice as ready to take on the world as a warrior.
- Throughout his apprenticeship he and Laurelheart remained close.
- List item 1
- As he mellowed out some Mothnose was chosen to mentor his first apprentice, Rushpaw. His teaching style was sporadic and very informal. An outsider would likely think he was an older apprentice helping out a younger friend rather than a mentor. Nonetheless Rushpaw grew into a fine young cat with time. Mothnose was extremely proud when his apprentice received his warrior name.
- He has yet to be chosen as a full time mentor again but he has temporarily mentored a few other cats. While it does make him a little sad not to have this extra responsibility he's the first to admit he isn't suitable. Nothing makes him quite so uncomfortable as being put into a position of power. He thrives in the background and he knows it.
- 5
- As Mothnose grew older and began to feel more like Laurelheart's equal the relationship between them changed. While Mothnose still runs to Laurelheart when he needs advice he has become one of the medicine cat's confidants. These day's he's more like a bratty younger brother to the medicine cat than a child or apprentice.
