A small white she-cat padded out from the dark foliage, amber eyes narrowing at the sky to try and tell what time of day it was through the dense leaves obscuring the sun. Though it was annoying to have to shuffle around with her head stuck up in the sky like an odd rock in the stream next to her, it was quite nice to stretch herself under the dappling light of the early morning sun. She'd left the camp earlier than she's asked Softpaw to appear, to make sure she was early and that she could try to figure out what she'd teach the apprentice. She smiled to herself as she sat down next to the quietly falling waterfall, thinking of when she was an apprentice, stubborn and arrogant up until her warrior ceremony, where she finally learned how to shut her smart mouth and accept instructions. She hoped Softpaw wouldn't be like her - as much as she liked pushing her former mentor around with her snide remarks, she knew she wouldn't tolerate it half as much as Mintsplash did. blossom

Following the trail she was only just learning, Softpaw weaved through the thick foliage, enjoying the sounds and scents of the early morning. She couldn't help the excitement bubbling in her chest. Though the other apprentices claimed that Chatterwhite was known for a sharp tongue, she had no intentions of judging her mentor before she had gotten to know her. As she neared the area they were to meet, a familiar scent crossed through the breeze and she began to wonder if she was late, or simply that her mentor was also an early riser.
"G-Good morning!" She stuttered awkwardly, not wanting to risk sneaking up on her mentor like she seemed to do to the other apprentices.

Chatterwhite turned at the sound of her apprentice meowing a friendly greeting from behind her. The white she-cat was partially surprised that she wasn't able to scent Softpaw - but then again, she was downwind. "Did you know that you were downwind, or did you just end up behind me?" The warrior was curious: if Softpaw already knew how to stalk, then her hunting would come naturally, as well as some tracking techniques for fighting. She turned fully to the apprentice, sitting down a few mousetails away from the black and orange tabby, resting her amber gaze on Softpaw.

Softpaw shifted her weight awkwardly, wishing she had known that she had been downwind. Truth be told, she hadn't even been paying attention, though she had been faintly aware that that it was important to hunting. She tried to force herself to meet her mentor's eyes, struggling to overcome her timid nature. "N-no, I didn't know," Softpaw admitted shyly as she padded up to her mentor, "Other cats say I m-move really quietly, though." Although that was by far the nicest thing many of them said to her. Usually they called her weird, and some even said she was too stupid to talk. The cruelest thing any cat had told her was to return to the twoleg place where a feeble cat like her belonged. She tried her best not to take this too personally, without much success.

Chatterwhite nodded, watching Softpaw speak timidly to her in response to her question. She was so unlike herself it was actually shocking, and she studied the apprentice to try and see what she could work on most. Her confidence, for one. Second, her hunting - if she was so quiet, she'd be an asset to IvyClan. If she trained her right. Finally, she'd work on her fighting skills. Being so shy and demure, Chatterwhite had a feeling that Softpaw would want to focus on her strengths before she started working on her less adapted skills. While she was sorting this out in her head, the warrior flicked her tail to get Softpaw to follow her to the edge of the creek, sitting down and looking out over the quietly moving stream. "No matter, you'll be a fine hunter soon enough." She turned to the apprentice, fixing her gaze on Softpaw's posture. "What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are? Depending on what you say, we'll start working on, so you can help the Clan sooner rather than later. I can see that you're very quiet, so my guess is that you're good at hunting. Or you will be. What do you say?" Although it would make sense to start with catching prey, if Softpaw did want to start battle training first, then Chatterwhite would oblige.

Softpaw followed her mentor's gaze out over the stream and found herself slightly awed. Her youngest memories were of a stuffy twoleg nest with tangy smells and sharp white walls. Since she and Tigerpaw had joined IvyClan, the beauties of the forest had awed her. The scents were always fresh and the sounds of the forest made her feel free.
"I uhm, I don't like to fight," Softpaw admitted, "So I'd like to start with hunting if that's okay with you."
She knew fighting was an important part of being a warrior, and that one day she would need to learn how to. Yet fear pulsed deep in her chest as she thought of spilling the blood of another cat. She hoped that the scent of her fear was not too strong, or that her mentor didn't comment.
