End up dreaming instead of sleeping.

[In conjunction with this thread, feel free to jump in] The gentle afternoon sunlight pooled amongst the branches giving rise to a golden sheen to Chervilpaw’s pelt. She moved lightly through the forests, mindful of twigs as if her mentor, Echofrost, was all of a tail behind her murmuring instructions. She was doing pretty well for her first solo hunt if she said so herself. A small mouse was covered with loose dirt about a tree length back and now, bolstered by her success Chervilpaw moved further into the forest, in search of larger prey. She paused, letting the brisk air spill into her mouth and tell her it’s secrets; the Ivyclan border a half tree length ahead, a richness to the sky that whispered of rain and the warmth of prey. It was…? It was a … something. Playing the scent carefully against every bit of freshkill she’d ever eaten the Roseclan apprentice moved forwards to get a better whiff. CRACK! The moment Chervilpaw stepped on the twig the forest became chaos filled of fluttering and scrabbling as mammals hit the ground and birds took to the sky. However unlike in the knoll there was no ethereal stillness after the fact. Instead the undergrowth was still rustling, punctuated by a chorus of odd, strangled squawks. Up ahead the leaves gave a final shake and out hopped a very confused looking crow. It gaped up at the sky and flapped his twisted wing desperately. A crow! Straighten out that wing before taking it back and easy as that she’d be the talk of the clan. Heedless of the border Chervilpaw took off after it in her very fastest stalk. Her quarry it seemed was not as useless as it looked and hopped furiously away from her. Luckily the injured crow could not keep up the pace for long and Chevrilpaw was surrounded by mossy trees, the border a distant memory, when the chase ended in a flurry of blood and feathers. She bowed her head sending a silent prayer up to Starclan and, head tilted to the side, tried to work out how best to do a post-mortem wing repair.

Every sense was on high alert as Tigerpaw prowled through the shaded wood. His footfalls were silent, calculated. He wouldn't risk scaring away any prey. It wasn't Tigerpaw's first solo mission (his third to be precise), but he was still determined to do well. He wouldn't let himself grow careless with time. His developing muscles rolled smoothly under his ebony-streaked pelt as he prowled, looking much like the creature of his name.
He was just beginning to pick up the faint scent of a squirrel when he heard a sharp crack a few yards away. He could hear the resulting calls of alarm, and the brief ruckus of prey fleeing into the dark crannies of the woods. Great - there went all the prey in this portion of the forest. Irritation sparked beneath his pelt, and the tom headed in the direction of the disturbance. As he grew nearer and nearer, he hesitated. It may not have been a clumsy clanmate - what if it was a badger, or... a fox? Tigerpaw may be a skilled fighter for his age, but he knew he was no match for a creature like that.
A few moments of thoughtful silence, and Tigerpaw settled on scaling a tree. If there's a fox or badger, it won't be able to reach me up here. Still, the tom shuddered at the thought of encountering the russet-furred monster. He brushed the thoughts away. Steeling himself, he drove forward, occasionally leaping the small stretches between branches.
Finally, he reached the grove in which the noise had originated. There, hunched over the ruffled form of a felled crow, was a cat. Tigerpaw knew instantly this cat was Roseclan. He didn't recognize them, and even from here, he could smell their potent scent. This cat had crossed the border, stolen this prey, and scared off all the rest in the area! Anger began to churn in his belly, and Tigerpaw crept forward on the branch. Now's my chance to prove myself. I'll teach this intruder to stay away from my clan.
With that thought in mind, Tigerpaw leapt at the crouched form, claws unsheathing even as a snarl curled through his teeth.

Jayleap wasn't quite sure what he was doing. Checking borders? Hunting? Both?
All he knew was, it was a nice day, and he loved nice days. Plentiful prey, warm sunlight, nice smells...
The scaring of prey. He turned his head sharply into the direction of the sound. He was already near the Roseclan border, and the sound didn't seem too far. He flicked his ears in irritation. What apprentice is making a ruckus now? Apprentices were always happy and optimistic, which Jayleap envied, but they sure did get on his nerves a lot.
Sighing, the multicolored tom made his way towards the sound, head low in a stalking manner. He made it just in time to see Tigerpaw leaping onto another apprentice. His eyebrows furrowed, but then slacked off as he noticed one simple detail. The other apprentice was not of Ivyclan.
He gritted his teeth, storming in and attempting to get in between the two apprentices. "What do you think you're doing?" The question was directed at both of them. "You do not jump into fights without another cat! You know this! It is dangerous!" He turned to the other. "And as for you... What are you doing across the border?" He nearly growled.
OOC: Sorry if it's bad! I was being rushed >.>

Everything happened at once. Claws tore through Chervilpaw’s pelt like drips of fire as something heavy slammed the breath out of her. Blood thundered around her skull until it was a miracle she could think let alone see. Fluffed out and snarling her mind scrabbled for purchase just as badly as he feet on the frost slickened moss. Echofrost hadn’t… She didn’t… Despite the heat in her body her stomach was cold as if filled with snow. One thought shoved the others from her mind; she had to.
She straightened out from her cower and spun around to see who or what had sent her sprawling. Her eyes settled on a brown tabby. Ivyclan. He swum larger than life in her vision; he was all she could see. Chervilpaw started pacing, tail lashing violently. They would see who the real warriors were.
Then a voice came cut crisp through and Chervilpaw glanced sideways, settling on a brown tabby. A warrior. The ice in her belly doubled in size. Was he egging her attacker on? Was she about to find herself one against two? Furiously she backed away, glancing between the two toms until her feet brushed up against mossy roots of a tree. She caught the last part of his question and although words pooled from her mouth she paid them no mind. What harm could words do now?
“Hunting.” Well that particular word wouldn’t do her any favours. Desperately she searched for some way to fix it, to not die this side of the border. “No disrespect but, I mean, if you’re hungry you can always go back to your twolegs.”
She opened her mouth and closed it again in a wordless cry. What had she just said?

Mothflight tasted the cool newleaf air, hoping to catch a trace of Tigerpaw's scent nearby. She had lost sight of her apprentice for what felt like only a second when a loud crash rang across the forest, echoing off of every tree and rock. She lashed her tail angrily at the thought of having nothing to carry back to camp for the fresh-kill pile. A gentle breeze ruffled her brown and black pelt, tickling the furs beneath her nose. Her apprentices scent drifted with it, and another slightly less familiar one as well. Roseclan! Bright blue eyes narrowed, Mothflight dug her claws in to the soft dirt beneath her and followed the scent of an intruder.
Once she was upon the scene, Mothflight hid beneath some foliage, hoping to catch sight of the intruder. She saw three cats clustered together, two from Ivyclan and one from Roseclan. Her ears perked up as the young intruder spoke and a deep growl rose within her. Mothflight stepped carefully from the bushes where she had hidden and stood close to Jayleap. "It seems we have an intruder." She started, glaring menacingly at the she-cat. Mothflight twitched her whiskers, displeased by the cats comments. "Why don't we let the apprentices sort it out. It would be a fair fight and could teach this fool a lesson." She cooed, hoping to convince her clanmate. She glanced at Tigerpaw, feeling confident in his skills despite being fairly young. She was itching to teach these smug Roseclan cats a lesson.

Jayleap gritted his teeth as the other apprentice spoke up. Disrespectful Roseclanner... He chose to ignore the comment as Mothflight walked up. His flirty mask tugged at his heart, but he decided now was not the time to revert to his hiding place. Now was the time to make a decision.
Jayleap knew how loyal Mothflight was, but he also knew of her general eagerness to test the warrior code. While they both descended from non-clanners, Jayleap was a bit more... respectful of the warrior ways. Or, at least, that was his thought on the matter.
While still keeping his eyes on the Roseclan apprentice, he spoke to Mothflight. "Mothflight, I understand that Tigerpaw has honed his strength, but this is a larger matter. It is too dangerous, no matter what this intruder is, and we cannot take chances such as that. However, I do believe this cannot go unpunished..." He thought for a minute. "What should we do? Hunting in another clan's territory is strictly forbidden..." He looked to Mothflight for guidance.

When the figure beneath his claws jerked, Tigerpaw was forced to hop backwards, lest he lose his balance. His opponent whirled around, and Tigerpaw got a true look at the Roseclan apprentice for the first time. She was somewhat large for her age, with silky cream fur. At first, she seemed confused, but that was quickly replaced with fury. Tigerpaw's anger matched his rival's; she invades their territory, steals prey, and is angry at him?
Tigerpaw tensed, waiting for retaliation. Yet, before the Roseclanner could strike, a voice rang out. His fur fluffed slightly in irritation as Jayleap stalked up to them. The brown tom began to lecture Tigerpaw, and the apprentice could barely hold back a hiss. Who is he to be ordering me around? He's hardly a warrior himself!
His fur flattened slightly as Jayleap reprimanded the apprentice as well. At least he wasn't the only one in trouble; it wouldn't be the first time he'd been blamed for his heritage. He could see the nervousness returning to the apprentice's eyes as she backed up. Tigerpaw held back a snort. She looks like she thinks we're going to kill her. The ignorant mange-pelt probably thinks we're barbarians.
He was tempted to live up to that expectation at her next comment. The breath left his lungs, and he physically restrained himself from rushing forward and clawing her ears to shreds.
"Listen, you-"
As if summoned, Mothflight slid from the undergrowth. Her chocolate fur shone luminously in the afternoon light, and she glowered at the Roseclan apprentice. Almost instictually, Tigerpaw felt himself relax in her presence. His mentor wasn't unreasonable, but also not afraid of battle; She'd reason with Jayleap.
"There's a reason we're taught how to fight." Tigerpaw said smoothly. "What's the point, if we let every intruder go with nothing more than a reprimand?" His expression darkened slightly. "Soon, the entirety of Roseclan will be crossing our border and stuffing themselves fat."

Mothflight dug her claws deeply in to the mossy earth, her black ears flattened with annoyance. "We cannot let Roseclan think we are weak!" she hissed, her blue eyes burning with contempt. She kept her icy glare on the Roseclan apprentice, not wanting her to think she could escape while they dawdled on their decision. This only makes us look weaker! We should have driven her off our border immediately! The brown and black she-cat scented the air, checking if any other Roseclan cats were nearby. Her tail lashed wildly from side to side. "We cannot hesitate any further on this. Tigerpaw understands this, and any true warrior would too!" She meowed, gazing deeply at the small tabby tom. "This has been decided the moment this apprentice crossed our border." The air was thick with tension, or maybe it was only her. She was suddenly aware of her throbbing claws and tense muscles. The forest seemed to hold it's breath. Mothflight nodded towards Tigerpaw, hoping to urge him back to the fight that should have been finished long ago. We have the advantage in this situation. The Warrior code tells us to defend our borders from intruders! Mothflight lightly scoffed to herself. What use is the warrior code if we do not follow it?

Bearshadow stalked along the border, tasting the air for the scents of prey and freshly marked borders. Instead, the wind carried the fear scent of a young RoseClan cat and multiple IvyClan cats. He hissed to himself and bounded across the border, cursing the warrior who had let such a young apprentice wander off on her own so close to the edge of their territory. It wasn't long before the huge warrior spotted Chervilpaw and her attackers. Without a second thought, he leapt over the apprentice's head, placing himself firmly between her and the apprentice who seemed to have been threatening her. "Does it take three IvyClan cats to take on a single newly named apprentice now?" Bearshadow snarled, "How pathetic. Perhaps you ought to try fighting a real warrior, kit." With that he aimed a powerful swipe at the tabby apprentice's face, and hissed threateningly. He didn't dare allow for an opening for the cat to reach the RoseClan apprentice behind him, and stood at the ready in case one of the warriors decided to jump in.

Before Jayleap could agree with Mothflight, a Roseclan warrior broke the silence. He snapped his head to the Roseclan warrior, teeth gritted and tail lashing frantically. "No, stranger, but we are not... barbaric. However, now you have started something that cannot be ignored." He signaled to Mothflight with a nod, and turned to go towards the intruders, back hunched and eyes narrowed.
Tigerpaw could take care of himself. Anyone could see that. Mothflight herself was eager for battle. Jayleap had been trained in fighting.
They had this. Plus, they had numbers on there side. It'd be pretty easy to chase them out of Ivyclan... He hoped.
Finally deciding to make a move, the tom leaped at the Roseclan warrior, aiming his claws at his face but careful not to expose his own underbelly.

The apprentice all but forgotten, Bearshadow barely slipped out of the way of his attacker. He felt the other cat's claws graze his cheek, and droplets of dark crimson liquid bubbled slightly at the edge of the wound. Blood lust pounded powerfully in his chest as he reared, aiming to shove the younger warrior over before he could regain his balance. He hoped the young cat felt the sting of his extra claws, and felt his strength. These cats would learn who they were dealing with. He was no inexperienced warrior frightened of a few scratches. These IvyClan kittypets will learn their place! It's about time they ran home to their twolegs and left the forest to the real wild cats!

There were three of them now, another warrior lean muscled with a jagged looking scar down one shoulder and within moments demanding her blood. Desperately Chervilpaw fought the urge to slink down into a ball, they were talking about her future as calmly as asking the time of day worse she could sense them weighing her up and eyeing off any potential escape. Thief. Coward. Dead. She couldn't become both of these things. She stood up a little straighter and looked to the brown she-cat, oddly calm as she waited for them to reach their decision. Decided the moment this apprentice crossed our border... That settled it then. She was just coiling her oddly soft muscles to spring at the apprentice when a large brown shape soured between her and the apprentice. Four against one. Had an apprentice ever been this dead? Then the scent hit her and she heard the familiar voice.
Unbidden a purr sprung from her chest. "B-bearshadow?"
She paused, every muscle taunt yet trembling with fear. All too soon her protector moved out from in front of her and she was left with nothing between her and the enemy apprentice once more. She arched her back, hissed and then, realizing this wasn’t a game with her siblings through herself at the enemy apprentice. Her claws slid out flailing for anything, everything of him she could reach.

( When should I intervene with Echofrost? She's going to eventually, but how long do we want the fight to go on? ) ( Also, is this taking place a lot later in the future? 'Cause if Chervilpaw was hunting on her own now, she would definitely have had at least a few fighting lessons, and we haven't done those yet )
Tigerpaw's only warning was a flash of brown in his peripheral vision. Before he knew what had happened, a huge tom had planted himself between Tigerpaw and the enemy apprentice. "No, just one." He snarled in reply, only to be met with claws flashing out towards his face. Tigerpaw jerked back, feeling the talons graze the fur of his cheek. He could have lost his eye. For a moment, fear bubbled in his belly. However, it was quickly replaced by rage.
Jayleap lunged forward to confront the stocky tom. Tigerpaw backed away from the fight, emerald eyes training on the form behind the brown warrior. The apprentice looked afraid, and for a moment Tigerpaw felt hesitation. She actually reminded him of his sister, to a degree. However, all thoughts were swept away when she came flying towards him, claws flashing. Tigerpaw ducked, hissing as her claws caught his cheek and scored a short line of fire.
Every muscle tensed, and in the time span of a few seconds, Tigerpaw recalled every combat technique Mothflight had taught him. Twisting out from under the Roseclan apprentice, Tigerpaw reared upwards, bringing his extended claws down towards Chervilpaw.

Jayleap felt a sudden fire in his side, and at first he did not recognize what it was. He was shoved a few feet away, claws skidding him a bit farther. He looked down to examine his flank, and scowled as he saw hot, thick blood being absorbed by his fur. He looked up to his attacker. "You come into our territory and act as if we are the ones to be punished? Surely a 'real warrior' like yourself would understand the punishment for doing so," He spat, straightening up.
He stalked a few feet away, catching the apprentices in his peripheral. He was confident in Tigerpaw's abilities, and truth be told, he was confident in his own. He hoped his confidence lasted. Suddenly, the young deputy began to sprint at the older Warrior, jumping to the side and aiming to claw at his flank.

"RoseClanners protect our own no matter what!" Bearshadow spat, "A fight with you is little compared to the dishonor of leaving such a young apprentice to fend for herself against an entire patrol. Not that you would know what dishonor means." A furious snarl escaped his lips as the cat he now recognized as the IvyClan deputy dug thorn sharp claws through his thick pelt. He whipped around, swinging a massive paw with full force at the smaller cat, knowing full well that he would not win a battle of speed. A battle of endurance, or one of pure strength? That would be where he excelled. So he needed to get the other cat to the ground, simple as that. He couldn't help but remember the first time he battled IvyClan as he looked at the young deputy. He had been a young apprentice at the time, barely older than Chervilpaw. A simple border skirmish turned tragic, other cats had told him. He knew differently, though. That had been when he had learned what little respect they had for the warrior code. The memory of his mother gurgling in pain as blood flowed from her slightly swollen belly and throat brought a new kind of rage to his already boiling blood. They would all pay. If not by his paws, then by the rage of StarClan themselves.
