Ashfall was excited; today would be the start of her mentorship of Burnpaw, her new apprentice! The warrior hoped that she would be able to properly prepare the young cat and that she would be able to pass down her knowledge of being a warrior and the clan. As it was the first day of their training, the she-cat thought it may be a good idea to start slow, deciding on taking Burnpaw to the shaded creek to work on hunting the small critters that come to the creek for water, and to also work on footing as the pebbles could be slippery occasionally.
"This way Burnpaw," the tabby called over her shoulder, padding through some underbrush. "We're going to work on your footing for a little while first. I'd rather you not fall into the creek. And then we'll move onto some hunting and judging the distance to pounce." As she talked, Ashfall sniffed the air, quickly catching the scent of a family of mice nearby, probably getting a drink. Her ears flicked around at the sound of the quiet waterfall; this area had always been the warrior's favorite. It was so peaceful and quite -and also perfect for sunbathing.
"I want you to walk on some of those larger pebbles of there okay? They're nice and smooth so you'll need to make sure to use your tail and watch your steps to avoid slipping. I believe in you!" Ashfall was always a fan of encouragement and gave her apprentice a gentle smile. NOTES ; Let me know if there's anything you want to do in particular or a specific direction you'd like to take!

Burnpaw rolled her eyes. Walking on pebbles would be easy, she had come to this spot a million times looking not just for prey but also moss for the elder's bedding. Burnpaw leaped easily across the pebbles, landing confidently on the other side. She then sniffed the air, smelling the mice nearby. She licked her lips in anticipation, wanting to sink her claws in the warm prey. Burnpaw looked back at her mentor. There's some mice nearby and a lot of them," she explained. "It'll be good to bring them back to the elders," she murmured to herself, thinking. "What else do you want me to do?" Burnpaw asked, paws itching to be allowed to hunt freely. It had been a while since she had a mentor holding her back and telling her what to do.

The she-cat watched as the apprentice confidently walked across the pebbles; it seemed as if Burnpaw knew exactly what she was doing. Well, time to move on then. The warrior could sense the younger cats anticipation and decided to move right into hunting.
"We're going to work on group hunting and hunt those mice together. I want you to find where they are and then you're going to decide which side to flank and I'll take the opposite side. We need to focus on working together and being on the same page," she instructed. "If one of use moves too soon then the other will have a harder time catching the prey. Once we're both ready to pounce we're going to signal one another and pounce. Also, make sure to get the prey closest to you so we do not go for the same one."
Ashfall watched the other she-cat expectantly and gave herself a few grooming licks on her chest while waiting to follow Burnpaw as she tracked the mice.

Burnpaw sniffed the air trying to track down the mice. She wasn't too fond of hunting in groups but she swallowed down her protests and focused on the hunt. She sniffed the air carefully before slinking off in the direction of the mice. She placed her paws down carefully as too not alarm her prey. When she heard their tiny squeaks she signaled Ashfall to flank the right side. Burnpaw's paws itched with excitement. She couldn't wait to feel the mice beneath her claws. She also felt annoyed. She wasn't used to waiting on other cats. She watched Ashfall closely, waiting for her signal to pounce.

The warrior watched as her apprentice sniffed the air and tracked the mice. Soon, Ashfall was flanking the right side and keeping and eye on Burnpaw; she could sense the young cat's annoyance and reluctance to hunt as a pair, but it was a good skill to learn. Not only did it teach patience, it taught teamwork, which is important both in hunting and in fighting.
Checking to make sure the other she-cat was ready, Ashfall signaled to pounce, and then proceeded to leap through the air, her claws striking a mouse and easily killing it. The warrior loved the thrill of the hunt, the way it coursed through her veins and energized her whole body. But the tabby knew that it was only done to provide for the clan, not just for pleasure; the warrior had heard of some cats killing just for fun, and not eating their kill -mainly kittypets- and she looked down upon it. Who would take a life just for fun and for no reason?

Burnpaw leaped when Ashfall did, snapping at a claw to hook into a fleeing mice's tail. With a squeal it leaped free and Burnpaw struggled to chase after it, losing her dignity in the process. She chased it along the river and bank and with a sloppy leap, she slammed her paws down on the mouse. With a yelp, she lost her balance and toppled into the river with a surprised shriek. She hauled herself out still carrying the soggy mouse. She dropped it on shore and glared at Ashfall, shaking the water from her fur. "What now?" she growled, wishing her pelt could just instantly dry itself.
