Ashfall purred gently from her position in the sun. She was currently stretched out on a large rock by the creek. The warrior loved to come and rest here and there were always good places to sunbathe and the soft sound of the waterfall relaxed her. The she-cat flicked her ears around, hearing the sounds of some squirrels squabbling.
The she-cat came out here to get a break from camp. She loved all of the clan members but, sometimes, being around the couples and kits made her feel down, longing for a love she currently didn't have. It made her doubt herself but she was young and she knew cats could fall in love at any age.
Licking her chest, the tabby lifted her head and looked around lazily, eyes blinking slowly. While she did enjoy solo sunbathing, it was nice to have someone there also, at least to chat with about clan gossip; Ashfall could be very nosy at times. A part of her was apprehensive of being out in the forest by herself. She had heard of the dead prey found covered in dog-scent, and the elders' tales of tge past tended to rub her fur the wrong way. Hopefully, it was just a few stray dogs that had wandered into the forest and not something more dangerous.
Eventually she would get up and hunt some so that other cats wouldn't think she was neglecting her duties. She'd probably go out again later tonight and hunt some more, as she enjoyed the focus of the hunt. But that was later, and for now she was content with sunbathing for a little while longer.
NOTES ; Let me know if there's any particular direction you'd like to take this!

The softly crinkling stream sent shivers down Mothnose’s spine in anticipation of the coolness the pleasant shadows clinging to the creek would bring. His paws felt wet and sweaty, the price of a morning’s hunting under the oppressive heat. Still he was feeling quite proud of himself, his injured leg had only faltered a little and a small pile of prey sat in camp to account for his efforts.
Much as he loved the hustle of camp it was good to get out into the dense forest and escape the warmth of too many cloistered bodies. Laurelheart quietly calling him hopeless and ordering him to walk along the creek may have had a little to do with it. It wasn’t as if he’d been doing anything wrong, just taking a nap in the back of the medicine cat den where things were coolest. His leg still wasn’t at full strength and it wasn’t as if anyone else was using the space. The tom shook his head slightly, a purr rumbling in his chest, trouble or no trouble it was indeed a beautiful day.
As he reached the creek he launched himself headfirst into it, sending water splashing all over the rocks. He landed clumsily and scrabbled for purchase on the rocks. The water was cool and soothing against his lower legs. A soft mrrow of laughter escaped him, what a sight he must be. He was partially soaked with the fur along the sides of his face and body still only half grown back. Well, so long as no one was here to see him he could look as silly as he liked.
The breeze changed, carrying Ivyclan scent. He turned, eyes widening in surprise. “I’m sorry Ashfall, I didn’t see you there.” He couldn't stop another soft mrrow of laughter. It was good to be allowed out into the forest again.

The she-cat flicked her ears and sleepily opened her eyes at the sound of pawsteps and purring. The scent of a fellow clan mate tickled her nose as she lifted her head and spotted Mothnose. Fur warm from the sun and feeling incredibly relaxed, the she-cat watched with amusement as the other warrior launched himself into the water, drops of it sprinkling her fur. Ashfall chuckled as she watched the male scramble for footholds and laugh at himself. The wind ruffled her pelt as it changed direction, carrying her scent towards her clan mate.
"Nothing to be sorry for Mothnose. You are quite a sight to see," she replied, flicking her tale and letting out a soft laugh at the sight of the soaked cat. "You seem to be in a good mood. How's your leg?" Ashfall slowly rose from her laying position, doing a long good stretching and letting out a rather large yawn. The she-cat pondered whether or not to jump into the water as well but decided against it as she knew it would take a while for her to dry off. Plus, she was rather comfy in her sunspot and didn't particularly want to move from it.

Ashfall seemed to share his amusement at his sodden state, which meant he either hadn’t gotten her with the splash or she didn’t mind a little water. He took a few steps back and shook out his mottled pelt sending a second, smaller, flurry of water shattering down around him. Jumping in headfirst had seemed like a great idea at the time but standing waterlogged with trails of water dripping down his muzzle a conversation seemed much more appealing. He leapt up into a shaded spot a few tail lengths from Ashfall and sat down, regaining some of his composure before answering.
“My leg?” He peered around, checking it was still there and hadn’t swollen up again. “I’d be much happier without it. Not what I meant but you get the picture. As long as I don’t end up getting chased by dogs. But I'd have to be pretty unlucky for that to happen twice--”He swallowed. “So, hunting!” Knowing his luck (and the fact he sounded very much like a cat with something to hide) Ashfall was sure to pick up on the abrupt change of topic and hound him on thing he very much wished would remain unsaid. His paws sat muddied and dripping on the grassy bank, nothing to do but wait.

Ashfall turned so that she was facing the other warrior, giving herself another big stretch before settling down once again. Chuckling again at the sight of the tom dripping water everywhere, the warrior noticed when he changed topics abruptly. Sore subject? "I'd be careful around the forest. Some more cats have been smelling that dog scent at the outer edges and you know dogs don't care about boundaries," the she cat stated, flicking her tail lazily in the sun. Ashfall knew that some cats were worried about the scent, but she didn't find it troubling; dogs tended to wander occasionally but they would leave soon to go wander somewhere else. While she was curious as to why Mothnose changed the subject, she decided not to push ,as she didn't want to make him uncomfortable or cause him to leave; if he wanted to talk about it then he could when he was ready, not when she felt like it. "I'm going hunting later if you want to join," she paused, before lowering her voice as if to tell a secret. "Actually, I was going to go hunting earlier but I ended up falling asleep up here in the sun for a little while." The she cat grinned, giving her clan mate a sheepish look.

( carolion) In the time between his hasty change of the subject and Ashfall’s answer his mind scrambled for purchase, trying to find a way to describe his little incursion into Roseclan territory in a way that didn’t imply he was completely useless as a warrior. Tell her it was the prey thief? Nah. Mysterious flying dog that chased him without ever skimming the ground? He doubted the kits would believe that one. He’d just reached the conclusion that it was impossible -- it was stony silence or the truth -- when she smoothly went along with his change of subject. He lifted his head abruptly. Man! I love this cat.“The dogscent...” He slumped forwards a little. Mostly he tried to pretend it wasn’t there, clinging to the stream border like burrs, but it was getting harder and harder to push it from his mind and when he couldn’t… Starving cats, mangled corpses… He shivered. “I’m sure it will all sort itself out.” He shook his head slightly, with enough hesitancy to make a newborn doubt his words. “Hunting later sounds fun.” He half lied. While his leg continued to ebb with a dull ache, the more things he did the easier it was to keep calm and pretend nothing was amiss. He shook his head with mock seriousness. “ Youngsters these days. No stamina. Back in my day we’d hunt for three days straight without stopping.”
