(Private with Ananymity and carolion ) Santiago trotted with a familiar purpose towards the Playground. The unnaturally stiff and bright structure glinted oddly in the moonlight. It twisted upwards towards the sky like a tree that had grown the wrong way, before being trapped in unyielding plastic. As usual, the whole place reeked of children and dogs. But Santiago didn't let that crinkle his nose for more than a moment as he made his way under the playground. The wood chips were prickly and harsh under his large grey paws, but he didn't notice. Santiago was comfortable here. Every night, he found his way here to this playground, only going out of his way to avoid it when there were dogs or large groups of cats. Sometimes, if he was focused, the strong scents reminded him of his old home. On quiet nights, he could spend whole hours in this playground, eyes closed, living with his Ignacio. Closing his eyes, Santiago tried to go back there once again. He opened his mouth to take an especially deep breath in, and soon was awash in another world. Under the stronger scents of people and dogs, Santiago could sense the pleasing notes of sweet human cream, sweat, and cut grass. For whatever reason, the last scent always reminded Santiago of the color of Ignacio’s eyes. Santiago took in another deep breath, trying to catch hold of that color and the sound of a sweet purr, when the wind changed. Santiago jumped to his paws in an instant, and leaped on top of the playground. Higher ground would help him if the new cat he smelled turned out to be violent.

Notes: I think they'll be very interesting together! | Knox was bored -that's the only reason he was near this two leg contraption. Other than the fact that he was curious. He had been observing it for a few days and could not understand why the two leg kits would run around it screaming; they didn't appear to be in any danger. Maybe it was some kind of training? Either way, the tom had decided to investigate it further at night when it was usually abandoned. However, tonight it wasn't completely abandoned. With the wind in his favor, the rogue easily picked up the scent of another cat, probably a loner or a stray kittypet. The wood chips pricked at Knox's feet and he paused momentarily to prod and sniff at them curiously. Why would a two leg want to run around on this stuff? Knox felt like he was going to get a huge splinter. Suddenly the wind changed, going in the opposite direction. The tom watched as the other cat leapt to the top of the strange two leg structure. The other cat was rather large, and fluffy. Knox was confident in his fighting skills, but fighting against such a large opponent could lead to some nasty wounds, which could mean death later on. The itch to fight prickled under the rogue's skin and he almost gave into it; he decided that, for now, he would be friendly, but if the other cat made one wrong move he wouldn't hesitate to unsheathe his claws. Padding forward, Knox sniffed around the bottom of the structure before taking a few curious steps on top of it. The structure was definitely nicer on his paws than those wood chips.

Santiago eyed the lean cat carefully, quickly taking note of the scars on his muzzle and ear. The strange cat's posture might have been currently friendly, but Santiago was never one to take risks, his claws were half-unsheathed and ready to come out if needed. He quickly looked over the other cat's stance, trying to analyze it for potential openings before speaking. "Hello there," Santiago meowed loudly, striking a smile that didn't completely touch his glowing yellow eyes. "It's a very nice night for a walk, isn't it?" He yawned slowly. Santiago had learned in his many years that the impression of tiredness could throw many cats off their guard, even if he showed his large teeth at the same time.

Notes: the dirty bag is a used diaper lmao | The rogue felt his tense muscles ease up at the sight of the larger cat yawning; a tired cat tending to have their guard down and to be slower. Knox wasn't planning on taking advantage of that but if he needed to he would. The tom's ears flicked up at the sound of the other male's voice. "It's a beautiful night," the black and white cat commented, jumping up some steps on the structure to a platform. He looked curiously at the strange, brightly colored attachments coming off the platform. The scarred tom sniffed at the attachments before touching one with his paw, surprised to feel it cold and smooth. 'What are these made of? Where do two legs find these odd things?' he wondered, scrunching his nose up at a rather pungent two leg smell coming from some dirty bag underneath the structure. Swiveling his head to look at the other cat, he narrowed his eyes, taking in the appearance of the larger, and older tom. "Do you know what this thing is?" Knox questioned. Perhaps the older cat had investigated the structure further.

Santiago continued to observe the other cat with interest. Judging from his scent, he was unattached, just like Santiago was. He was probably very happy on his own, too. Santiago felt his heart twinge sadly a bit, imagining for a moment a cat with warm fur by his side. At least he and this odd cat had something in common, being happy alone. Santiago took a moment to ponder what to say before continuing, cats who lacked experience like this one often reacted with disdain at the idea that he was a former -- what was their ridiculous word for it? -- ah yes, kittypet. "The two-legs appear to enjoy playing with it." Santiago meowed, that silly word for people feeling foreign on his tongue. "I believe I missed your name?"

Notes: it's about to get crazy up in here | The tom could tell the other cat was watching him, but he paid no mind to it for he was too busy examining the structure. His ears flicked in the direction of the large cat when he spoke. "Knox," he replied shortly. "And you?" Scrunching up his face while he thought, the rogue turned to look at the other tom once again. "This is a strange place to spend your night..." he commented, confused as to why a cat would want to relax on such a strange two leg device. Suddenly, the sound of nails clicking on sidewalk echoed around the empty playground. Knox quickly turned his head and saw a large, rather hungry, looking dog standing under a street light, looking directly at Knox and the other cat. Gulping, the rogue felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up; even with the two of them there was no way they'd defeat a dog that big or that hungry. "We need to go," the scarred tom said lowly, trying not to cause the dog to rush at them before they were ready to run. He watched with disgust as a long pillar of saliva dripped down from the dogs mouth. And then, it was prowling towards them.

A chill shuddered through Santiago's body at the sight of the monstrous creature. It was a mountainous thing. In the silver and orange lights around them, Santiago could have sworn that the beast's eyes were blood red. It was staring straight at them, steadily prowling closer. It was too late for a quiet retreat now. "Run!" Santiago snarled, growling loudly as he followed his own advice and turned tail. In a few quick leaps, he had bounded over the playground and was hurtling towards the forest at the edge of the clearing. It suddenly looked too far away. If this Knox didn't make it, then-- Santiago hesitated, looking over his shoulder for the other tom, ready to throw himself in front of the awful creature if he needed to.
