The temptress lay upon a smooth stone-more so draped across it, her head low, ears folded back as little hiccups fell from her parted lips. Oh, woe, woe was she. "Whyyyy?" She cried, laying a paw over her muzzle as she continued to hiccup. Hic, hic, hic. It had happened again! Another handsome male had captured her attention only to turn around and betray her by choosing someone else! It was cruel! I am so much prettier, smarter, braver than them? Why them? Why not me? WHY? She let out another pitiful whine. "Why does this keep happening to me? Don't I deserve love? I've been good.." She couldn't remember how many times she thought she found the one only for them to pick somebody else. It was horrible! She refused to settle with just anybody! She had a type! And she didn't just find this type anywhere! They were so rare and so beautiful and they never picked her. She couldn't figure out why! She had so many honorable qualities that those other she-cats didn't. So why didn't they pick her? Hic, hic, hic. "Maybe love is not meant for me...Oh, what am I to do?"

Dawnblaze had just come back from hunting, carrying a rather fat squirrel in his jaws with a proud stance and a pleased look on his face. He was always happy to serve his Clan, refusing to believe that any duty is lesser than another. As he dropped his prey onto the growing fresh-kill pile, he looked around camp to see if anyone needed any help. For now, it seemed like everyone was fine, so he decided to take a little time for himself. Heading out of camp, large paws carried Dawnblaze through the forest until he'd made the short distance to Shaded Creek. Not long after he arrived, his ears pricked at the sound of a cat... Crying? Quickly, he made his way towards the voice and found his Clanmate, Honeyleap, sprawled on a rock with her face hidden behind her paws.
Dawnblaze stopped a few fox-lengths away, not wanting to intrude, and gave a gentle "Honeyleap?" He couldn't bear to see any of his Clanmates upset. If there was anything he could do to help, he would without hesitation. Hopefully, the she-cat wouldn't turn him away. Honeyleap was known to be a bit... Independent, to put it nicely. The ginger tom shook his head, clearing his mind so that he could focus on his Clanmate. "What's wrong?" he asked softly, tilting his head a bit and looking at the she-cat with concern in his vibrant, orange eyes.

Had she not been interrupted, the she-cat would have continued to cry and cry and cry. Hic, hic, hic. And then from in front of her came a voice! Oh! "Honeyleap?" asked the voice. "What's wrong?" She lowered her paws from her face and raised her head, ears forward, eyebrows furrowed, eyes narrowed. Who? Ah! Him. Her eyes fell upon a handsome tom, his fiery coat and bright orange eyes making him stand out against the greenery of their environment. Dawnblaze. Her cheeks warmed in embarrassment of having been caught having such a private moment and she avoided eye contact before collecting herself. She became stony and the tears were wiped from her eyes. She rose and sat back on her haunches, staring down her nose at him. "What? Have you come to mock me and my misfortunes? "

The ginger tom watched as Honeyleap noticed him and collected herself. He took a step forward, but flinched as the she-cat's harsh words rang out. Dawnblaze decided to sit down where he was, ready to leave if Honeyleap asked him to. "Of course not. I just wanted to see if you were alright." There was a bit of resentment in his voice due to being accused of such a mean thing, but he didn't have any ill feelings towards his Clanmate. She was upset, and he could probably guess why, and he simply wanted to be a friend for her.

For a moment she felt bad for snapping at the tom but only for a moment. She sniffled and gazed around before looking back at the cat who's very being could make the Sun envious of Dawnblaze's shine. She shrugged off the feeling of guilt like one might swat away a fly. It's not my fault. Everyone makes mistakes. There was no harm done. Silly girl. She always forgot how words stung. After all, she was a selfish creature at heart. Selfish and oblivious to anyone else's feelings. "Of course not. I just wanted to see if you were alright." She pouted her lips and sat up straighter. "Of course I'm okay. I look okay, don't I? What fools cries over stupid things like tomcats and nonsense like that? Certainly not I." She looked about quickly before eyeing him carefully. "And you? Are you alright?"

Honeyleap's response was expected, and Dawnblaze simply nodded, not wanting to pester the she-cat if she wished to not talk about it right now. For a moment, as Honeyleap sat atop the stone with confidence and certainty, Dawnblaze found himself taking note of her features. Was she always this beautiful? Almost as quickly as the thoughts came, however, the fluffy tom shook his head to be rid of them. How inappropriate of him to be thinking something like that when Honeyleap had just gone through a... Break-up? Maybe? Dawnblaze only knew that it was about a tomcat, so he assumed it was a case of unrequited love. Poor Honeyleap...
At the question, Dawnblaze's ears perked and he tilted his head a bit. "I'm great! I just got back from a hunting patrol. You should have seen the squirrel I caught, it looked like it decided to eat its entire stock of nuts in one go!" For a moment, Dawnblaze forgot about why he was here, closing his eyes and looking rather proud of himself. However, it was short-lived, and the ginger tom opened his eyes to look for Honeyleap's reaction.

How strange, she thought. She found it strange how such small things could make cats so happy-so proud of themselves. Honeyleap found no such pleasure in small things like hunting, though a tom who could provide for his clan and mate was another story. If a tom could take care of her, he already had her heart. She watched his eyes flutter shut peacefully, and she wondered if she could ever be simple like that; simple enough to find pleasure in simple things. She like herself, of course she did! Who wouldn't? But she often wondered if maybe she wasn't so picky and well, herself, then perhaps maybe she would be liked more? She did not know. She had never tried to not be herself. She was always the she-cat her mother raised her to be-who else was she supposed to be other than herself? "Congratulations," she said with a flirty purr. "That is quite a catch. You're a marvelous hunter, Dawnblaze. Any cat would lucky to be yours." She paused-she had no idea where she was going with this, but she was heart broken and bored and he was there. "What about you? Are you luckier in matters of the heart than I?"

Dawnblaze watched as Honeyleap seemed to be mulling over some things in her own mind. He remained silent, not wanting to interrupt her thoughts, until she spoke. Confusion crossed his expression for a heartbeat at the flirtatious purr his Clanmate gave him, but he chose to ignore it. To the question, Dawnblaze flicked an ear and replied, "I haven't really given anything like that much thought. I live to serve my Clan, and I'm very happy doing just that. If you're asking if any she-cat has caught my eye, I suppose the answer is no. Simply because I haven't had time to think about such things." Dawnblaze wondered if maybe that was a bad thing. He loved providing for and protecting his Clan, but he was so passionate about it that there was never any room for thinking about himself.
"The Clan comes first, even before yourself. That's the Warrior code." he finished with a curt nod.

Simply because I haven't had time to think about such things." She nodded along to every word, her tail thumping against the flat surface of her rock gently. "Of course, of course." She murmured along. She could understand that-somewhat. Honeyleap was loyal to her clan, sure. But she had no real connections to any cat there, so it was hard for her to see herself dying for anyone or putting her all into tasks to help the clan-why waste her energy on cats she didn't particularly like and whom didn't like her? She was loyal to the clan because her mother had been. That was all. "The Clan comes first, even before yourself. That's the Warrior code." She eyed the tom as he finished with a nod. She nodded too before stretching and lowering herself from her pedestal, tail raised as she started towards him, eyes alight with amusement. "You have to take care of yourself sometimes, Dawnblaze. Don't you want a mate? Kits? Of course, that lifestyle isn't ideal for everyone but..." She gazed down at her paws shyly. "You're very handsome, Dawnblaze. Has anyone ever told you that?"

Her words, along with her attitude, were confusing to Dawnblaze. Was she hinting at something? "I do my best to make sure I'm fit to serve my Clan. I..." Honeyleaps's question made him pause and really think about his answer before replying, "I suppose, one day, a family would be nice. I don't know."
Dawnblaze's ears felt hot as he grew more nervous. He'd never really been flirted with, before, and it felt... Strange. Yet, the compliment brought a small purr from his chest and he looked down at his paws in embarrassment. "Thank you, Honeyleap. I think you're quite a pretty she-cat as well." He tried his best to compliment her without it sounding like he was interested in anything more than friendship. He wasn't sure if he was ready for something like that.

She could tell by the way he spoke that he wasn't interested;not in the way she wanted him to be. She dropped the act, her smiling slipping and her shoulders drooping. Oh, bother. He was not the one. No one was the one. "I'm going to die alone." She said aloud, lips pouted as she gazed elsewhere. She was so sure she could prove her mother wrong. "No one will ever love you like me. I am yours forever, Honeyleap." She had thought that, maybe she could find someone to love her and prove that someone could love her more than her mother-someone who wouldn't leave her like her mother did. Her searches always came up empty. She sighed before turning to him again. "Thank you," she said. At least he called her pretty. "What are you doing out here, anyway?"

The way Honeyleap's mood shifted caused Dawnblaze concern. Her words made him wonder what her deal was, but the slight annoyance went away as he began to figure that the she-cat was actually being completely serious. Maybe she was lonely? Dawnblaze could imagine, considering Honeyleap's failed attempts at finding a mate. The tom had always been watching his Clanmate, seeing her go from tom to tom in hopes of making him her lover, but time and time again, she failed. It made Dawnblaze sad, and his kindhearted nature would soon take over and probably get him into something he would regret. But, he couldn't just ignore a Clanmate in need. And Honeyleap definitely needed a friend.
"I was just taking a walk around the forest. I was feeling a bit restless after that hunt and wanted to keep going. I was hoping that I might catch more prey while on a walk." Dawnblaze paused for a moment before he continued, "You're not going to die alone, Honeyleap. You'll find the right tom for you. Perhaps if you... Stopped trying so hard to win affection?" Dawnblaze bit his tongue, hoping he wasn't saying the wrong thing, but he would continue after a few heartbeats, "You should try to get to know someone first, before you start flirting with them. Cats don't usually like being randomly flirted with."

She nodded along as he spoke, half listening and half paying no mind to the words that fell from his lips. Of course, no one gets it. What does he want me to do? Just sit there and let all the good one's go? I've only ever tried to prove my worth to those toms. Clearly they had something in their eyes when they decided I wasn't right for them. I was right for each one of them. Honeyleap's frown deepened, sinking into herself further. She should have known better than to talk about said topic. Cats just didn't get it. Everybody had somebody except her. She was alone. What else was she supposed to do? It took her a moment to realize that his explanation was over and that she had remained quiet for longer than necessary. She cleared her throat and eyed Dawnblaze with playful eyes. "Yes, of course. You're right. I'm going about this all wrong, I see that now."
