This thread will walk you through how to add an avatar so it displays at the correct size and how to add a mini avatar.
Main Avatar
For best results your avatar should be 200 x 300. You will also need to have a link to the image online. I suggest uploading your image to photobucket or another image sharing site.
Go to Profile -> Edit Profile -> Avatar
Click on Upload/Link
Enter your image URL
Click Link Image
Click Save Avatar Changes
You should now have a pretty, full sized avatar.
Mini Avatar
The image should be 180 x 100. You will need a link to the image.
Go to Profile -> Edit Profile -> Personal
Down at the bottom there is a box beneath Mini Profile Image, copy the image URL here
Save.
The mini avatar should now show when you hover over your profile.
