End up dreaming instead of sleeping.

(Part of the Wolf Plot. Umbra ananymity burnstar Dawnblaze Hana Time: Early evening. Weather: a still, muggy night. Lots of cloud cover. Location: through Ivyclan territory, across the stream and up to Moon Trees. Refer to the map for details.) For the first time In Laurelheart’s life, a part of him was relieved to turn his back on a patient. He closed his eyes, blocking out the scarred white form. If it wasn’t for the moons making her pelt sag and the alarming way her ribs protruded they would have been identical. He dipped his head at the other elders who had volunteered to sit with his patient in his absence. “If… if--” He had to fight to keep the kit who craved this cat’s affection and approval away. A medicine cat didn’t get personal. “—if there’s any change, send someone. You know where to find me.”
The words were automatic but they knew as well as he did there was nothing more he could do to. All that was left was hoping her body fought on and shift the responsibility for whatever happened next firmly on him. Even shouldering the blame he in no way wanted to be left waiting for death in a nest of his own conflicting emotions. He was glad he had an excuse to slip away. And he hated himself for it. As he turned from his patient his fear for her faded, and a different, less urgent but more unsettling fear took its place. What was fear for one cat that may die tonight when the whole clan was threatened? He shelved the new fear back with any residual affection for the cat in his den, and trotted up the slope to camp. As he worked dusk had drawn the camp into half-light and then into darkness. They were running late. He twisted his head to look around for Mistpaw and called out to the patrol set to accompany them. “Honeyleap, Dawnblaze, Windwhisker, Burnpaw. Thank-you for your patience. We’ll set out immediately.”

Dawnblaze had been pacing in front of the entrance to camp, gazing down at the ground as he put one paw in front of the other. He was more than ready to protect his Medicine Cat. This was such a crucial part of IvyClan's survival, now, and he wouldn't allow himself to fail. Vibrant, orange eyes swept over the other two cats coming along to ensure Laurelheart's safety; Honeyleap and Windwhisker. As soon as their eyes would meet his, he would give a confident, reassuring nod.
At last, Laurelheart emerged from the Medicine Cat den, looking both worried and afraid, at first. Dawnblaze was itching to start the journey, feeling more excited than fearful. Perhaps it was his self-confidence, or perhaps he was just drawn to the thought of being able to prove to his Clan that he was capable of taking care of them. Regardless, the ginger tom knew it was unwise to jump in claws-first when the danger hasn't even showed its whiskers, yet. So, for now, Dawnblaze greeted Laurelheart with a respectful dip of his head. "Don't worry, Laurelheart. Honeyleap, Windwhisker and I will keep you safe." Dawnblaze vowed.

Burnpaw touched her nose to Moonpaw's, the calico's eyes shining with worry. "I wish you would come," Burnpaw whimpered. Ever since they became apprentices, the two friends had been drifting apart. Moonpaw shook her head, fighting to keep her fur relaxed. Burnpaw just thought she was afraid, she didn't know it was more complex then that. Moonpaw was terrified for Laurelheart, the only cat who knew her secret, and frightened for her best friend in the world. But what if they did run into danger? Moonpaw couldn't risk fighting if she could never know for sure how injured she was. She wished Burnpaw would stay behind with her, but she knew Burnpaw was excited to be given this opportunity to prove herself to the clan.
Burnpaw purred rubbing her cheek along Moonpaw's. "I'll be back soon," she promised. "And I'll make sure nothing hurts Laurelheart." Burnpaw was aware Moonpaw liked the medicine cat and worried for him, anxious over his safety, but she had no idea why. Moonpaw nodded her head, fighting her nervousness down, she just couldn't help the sense of dread she had. Moonpaw sighed when the medicine cat summoned Burnpaw. "You better go," she murmured, turning away.
"Good bye!" Burnpaw called after her. The ginger sighed, turning away with slow paws. Sometimes she wished they wish they were kits again and things between them could go back to the way they were. Burnpaw pushed her feelings down and her head rose in pride. She was just about to join an important patrol! There was no room for feeling sorry for herself. Burnpaw bounded away to join the others and to greet Laurelheart, casting one last sad glance back toward Moonpaw as she stopped by the fresh-kill pile to watch them go, eyes anxiously watch Laurelheart, wondering if it was the last time she would see him again. Wondering if she would be all along after today. "Let's get going!" Burnpaw mraowed excitedly, eyes shining with impatience.

Honeyleap was not one for travelling as the sun went down. Not recently. She never really had a problem with darkness before-what was there to be afraid of? Nothing, usually. And yet now as the sun said goodbye and she stood beside her clan mates, Honeyleap's heart filled with dread. She wasn't sure why or what had her stomach in knots-all she knew was that it left a bad taste in her mouth and she felt even bitter than usual. She gazed around to her clanmates, wondering if any of them felt as uneasy as she. If they did, she didn't see it on their faces, and she wasn't about to ask. She turned and watched Laurelheart approach. She nodded to him in greeting before turning to Dawnblaze as he spoke. "Don't worry, Laurelheart. Honeyleap, Windwhisker and I will keep you safe." She frowned. Yes, she would try her best. Despite being her reclusive and resentful self, Honeyleap was a warrior-she had her duties and would stick to them. So if that meant protecting Laurelheart from the dangers she couldn't yet see, she would. She gave a nod and attempted to smile reassuringly at the medicine cat, though she was sure it looked as false as it felt. She turned then as Burnpaw came forward before standing and gazing from each clan mate. "Are we all here?"

"Of course everyone's here!" Windwhisker chimed in, his voice a surprisingly hearty purr. Windwhisker sat with an air of ceremony beside Honeyleap, his chest puffed out to a surprising degree. "And we're going to decimate and extricate these pesky, nettlesome creatures once and for all." The big tom was putting on what he hoped was a confident air, but he could feel his own heart thudding inside of his chest, and his anxiety built with every insistent beat. The muggy evening air seemed to almost choke him. "And no one has any need to fear!" Windwhisker's voice faltered a little bit, but he continued (apparently not having completely heard Laurelheart), "Do we set out now or discuss battle strategies first?"
OOC: I'd like to issue an apology for taking forever.

Mistpaw rushed into camp carrying a dripping ball of moss between her teeth, her whiskers pulled back in embarrassment as she saw the group gathered in front of the den. They were all here, waiting, and here she was running around like some kit, mud crusted up her legs, fur in disarray. It had taken her twice as long as it should have for her to collect the damp moss Laurelheart had sent her out for.
She lurched past the gathering of cats into the den where she deposited the moss in easy reach of the patient. As soon as the moss was out of her lips, she turned to Laurelheart, whiskers askew, "I'm so sorry, Laurelheart, I should have been here forever ago, I don't know why it took me so long, but I'm here now."
In truth, Mistpaw knew exactly what it was that had taken her so long, Laurelheart had given her a simple task to complete just before they left for Moon Trees, and she had been preoccupied with thoughts of the trip and what Starclan might say to them. She had been daydreaming, plain and simple, and had nearly walked into a bramble patch because of it. Her thoughts had taken her off course, and she had practically raced back to camp when she had finally gotten her head out of the clouds.
Now she was here, and so was the rest of the company. She dipped her head to Laurelheart and the warriors who would be escorting them safely to and from Moon Trees. She smiled at Burnpaw, the only one close to her age. It seemed that she was the only one they had been waiting on, something she had vowed would not happen, that already happened. Mistpaw sighed, hopefully the rest of the night would go better than the beginning.
Each cat chimed in, Dawnblaze assuring Laurelheart that he had nothing to fear, Burnpaw ready to get a move on, Honeyleap making sure that all were accounted for, and Windwhisker's reassurance that no one had anything to fear, "Do we set out now or discuss battle strategies first?" he meowed.
"B..b..battle strategies?" Mistpaw choked out, "I thought we were just visiting Starclan, to see what they had to say?" She looked around the group, it certainly didn't look like a battle mission to her, why would the medicine cat and apprentice be sent on a battle mission? Mistpaw looked hopefully to Laurelheart for reassurance.
(I too would like to apologize for my absence here, sorry it took me so long to reply.)
